Exterior House Repainting
Repainting existing residential exteriors, including weatherboards, eaves, fascia boards and other suitable surfaces. The scope starts with the condition of the existing paint and substrate, not simply a new colour.
ALTUA provides exterior painting, repainting and restoration work across Melbourne. We focus on preparing existing surfaces, addressing agreed defects and delivering a suitable finish for residential façades, timber elements and other exterior building surfaces.
A lasting exterior finish depends on what lies beneath the paint. ALTUA scopes preparation and restoration alongside coating work, with attention to weather exposure, existing deterioration and the materials being painted.

Painting as part of façade renewal, following appropriate cleaning, patching and preparation. Cracks, failed coatings and deteriorated building elements need to be addressed before finishing.
Preparation and repainting of weathered exterior timber, including removal of loose coatings, filling suitable surface defects and treating deteriorated sections as specified. Severely damaged timber may need repair or replacement before painting.
Peeling, chalking, staining and blistering can point to different underlying problems. New paint will not correct active moisture ingress, unstable render or decayed timber. The cause and condition should be considered before choosing the repair and coating sequence.
Different substrates need different preparation. Weatherboards, fibre cement, masonry and previously rendered surfaces may call for different primers, sealants and coating systems. Product compatibility and manufacturer application conditions should govern the final selection.
Where the underlying building fabric is damaged, Building Repairs & Rectification covers the separate defect-repair scope.
Identify the surface type, coating condition, visible defects, moisture concerns, access requirements and finish expectations. Confirm which repairs and preparation tasks are included.
Clean and remove loose or unsound material, carry out agreed make-good work and select primers and preparation methods suited to the substrate and coating system.
Apply the specified coating system within product and weather requirements. Review coverage, edges, junctions and the agreed finish before handover.
New or repaired render needs the specified curing period and compatible coating system before painting. Similarly, patched façades and repaired timber should be appropriately prepared before finishing. Separating these stages in the scope makes responsibilities and timing clear.
For new or renewed render finishes, explore our dedicated Rendering Services. This page covers the subsequent painting and exterior restoration work rather than the render installation itself.
ALTUA's project portfolio includes exterior maintenance and restoration scopes. Individual project descriptions show which surfaces were repaired, prepared or painted; we do not present unrelated projects as painting case studies.
Painting directly over loose paint is unlikely to last. Failed coatings must be removed to a sound edge, and the underlying surface prepared before the appropriate primer and topcoat system is applied.
Preparation depends on the substrate and its condition. It may include cleaning, removal of unsound coatings, sanding, local filling, caulking where suitable, priming and agreed repairs. A quotation should identify the included work.
Sometimes. Sound timber can often be prepared, filled where appropriate and recoated. Soft, rotten or structurally compromised timber needs assessment and may require repair or replacement rather than cosmetic treatment.
Cracks should be assessed before they are covered. Stable minor surface defects may be suitable for local make-good work; recurring cracks, movement or moisture-related deterioration can require a separate rectification scope.
There is no universal interval. Sun exposure, coastal conditions, substrate, coating type, workmanship and maintenance all influence service life. Inspect for chalking, peeling, cracking and exposed surfaces rather than relying only on age.
Coatings have specified temperature, humidity, drying and weather limits. Work should be scheduled around the product requirements and actual site conditions; painting onto wet or unsuitable surfaces risks failure.
Not unless expressly included. Rendering creates or repairs a wall finish, while painting applies a compatible coating system. Render repairs and coating preparation should be separately identified where required.
Commercial painting has different access, staging and operational considerations. ALTUA addresses that specialist scope through its Commercial Painting service; this page focuses on general painting and exterior restoration.
