Cladding Replacement & Rectification in Melbourne.
ALTUA replaces and rectifies external cladding across Melbourne where existing wall cladding is damaged, deteriorated or no longer performing as required.
Find out what is failing before deciding what to replace.
Damage visible on the face of the cladding may be only part of the problem. We consider the affected panels or boards together with relevant substrate, junctions, penetrations, flashings and surrounding façade details before defining the rectification scope.
Replace what needs replacing. Keep what remains serviceable.
Assess
Review the damaged or deteriorated areas, existing cladding, substrate and relevant façade details.
Define
Set the extent of removal, local replacement or broader rectification and identify the interfaces that need to be addressed.
Rectify
Complete the agreed replacement or rectification work with attention to junctions, penetrations, flashings and the finished appearance.
The right scope depends on how far the deterioration has progressed.
Localised damage may allow targeted replacement, while widespread deterioration or repeated failures can call for a broader cladding rectification scope. This page covers existing façades; new cladding installation is treated separately.
Cladding InstallationRectification has to work with the building that is already there.
ALTUA works with fibre cement, James Hardie products, metal and aluminium cladding, and weatherboard rectification. The existing material, profile, condition and surrounding façade details are considered when planning replacement work.
Cladding replacement & rectification — common questions
What signs show cladding needs replacement?+
Swollen or crumbling board edges, open joints, soft or rotting substrate, repeated cracking, staining from the inside, and mould or damp on internal walls. When these cover a broad area, local repairs seldom last.
What is usually found behind old cladding?+
Often rotted framing near openings, missing or failed flashings, torn or absent wall wrap and wet insulation. Because these are hidden until boards are removed, a scope typically includes allowances for frame repairs and any variation is agreed.
Should old wall wrap and insulation be replaced during re-cladding?+
Damaged or non-compliant wrap should be replaced. For new work, current Victorian requirements apply to the wall wrap and suit the climate, and water-sensitive materials need to be kept dry while the wall is open.
Could old cladding contain asbestos?+
Homes built before the ban on 31 December 2003 may have asbestos cement cladding, and sheets from the 1980s or earlier commonly do. Do not drill, cut or sand suspect sheets. Testing before work shows what handling rules apply.
Can replacement cladding match the existing profile?+
Where practical, the profile, layout and finish can be matched against the existing facade. Availability and compatibility depend on the existing system and the replacement product.
